Different car baby seats tests. Part 1

Bebe Confort Iseos (France)
You can easily adjust this car seat for concrete kid’s constitution. It has a non-level adjustment of a seat’s slope angle and possibility of lateral sides change. You can change them in the broadest range - to 100 mm! The car seat has very good internal safety belts; an external belt is reliably fixed by special clamps. According to orthopedist’s opinion, it is possible to attribute a headrest’s absence and small distance between top cuts for a seat belt and the back’s top to this model’s lacks.
At blow, at the moment of a peak overload Bebe Confort car seat originally “opens”, reducing loading on the child at the expense of its own elastic deformation. The result is magnificent - the least acceleration acting upon a thorax of a dummy among all seats which were tested. Loadings from seat belts are low too. Besides, there is some “body forward” effect, at the expense of which loadings on cervical vertebras decrease.
Bebecar 889 (Portugal)
Orthopedists liked a form and a depth of a seat, but back’s profile has seemed unsuccessful to them. There is an adjustment of a seat’s slope angle concerning the plastic basis. The “adult” seat belt which fixes a seat is passed through a cut in the basis and plastic loop behind a back. Adaptations for a belt tape fixing are absent. For this reason at blow Bebecar 889 has started to slide on a seat belt and has taken forward so much that has almost got to a forward seat’s back. It threatens with serious feet traumas for the child. Besides, under the influence of an overload the seat has come off the fixed position on a basis-platform and has spontaneously turned into cast away position. After that the handle for seat’s transfer located in the top part of the back has flied off its place and struck “the kid’s” nape.
Britax Super-Cruiser (Great Britain)
Orthopedists have estimated Britax Super-Cruiser not very high: they didn't like absence of a slope angle adjustment and not optimum profile of a sear’s back. However, the form of a seat’s pillow is good, but the covering fabric is too thin, so the child actually sits on a rigid material of profiled skeleton. By the way, this skeleton is made... of foam plastic. But light Britax Super-Cruiser has stood shock tests without any damages of dummy.
The regular car seat belt fixes not only a model, but also the child sitting in it. The belt geometry is thought over - the height of a diagonal strap connection to a shoulder of the child is regulated depending on his growth by vertical moving of a headrest. Therefore at the moment of blow a dummy, hardly beginning to advance, has provoked the fast operation of the inertial safety coil. The belt has perfectly kept a body. But some children's traumatologists consider that so fast body’s stop, causing a very sharp peck of a head, will inevitably lead to serious damages of cervical vertebras.
Cam Ciao Plus (Italy)
The estimation of orthopedists is ambiguous. On the one hand, doctors have mentioned a quite good profile of a seat’s pillow, its depth and monolithic sides, equally developed both at pillow level and at back level. But the system of seat belts is beneath all criticism. The small pillow covering the central lock is too small. It is unable to provide due protection to child’s genitals even at sharp braking!
At blow a fatal role was played by total absence of seat belt’s clamps. Because of it the inertial coil has worked too late, and the armchair mechanically has taken far forward, having pressed a dummy’s feet to a back of a forward seat. At a rebound it strongly “struck” the head at a back. Besides, the diagonal of a seat belt during a rebound has dropped out the top metal crampon. Re-testing has shown that the majority of negative effects is a consequence of constructive imperfection of a cheap Italian car seat.
